1and1's WebsiteBuilder has some good features, with a fair selection of templates - 50 at 1024 pixels wide (for modern wide or high-res screens) plus a further 95 at the old safe width of just 800 pixels.  You can filter from 21 main categories of template subject, and even then limit to a subcategory (click here to see).  If you're supplying your own images, to an extent, the original template subject may not be so important so you may just be looking for a design that catches your eye.  This can be difficult without selecting each in turn, as the views are not very large.  Templates offer between about 8 & 20 predefined images.  If instead you choose to download your own image, ideally do it at your chosen template's specified size, unless you're happy to just let it be scaled to the template's requirement,

You can optionally choose to have one of a dozen Flash intros (which the user can skip by clicking) - some with bouncy sound-tracks, and 2-lines of animated text.

The upper reserved area for a tailorable 'slogan' can usually be minimised if unused, by specifying no text plus say a 2-pixel font-size.  The reserved area for the optional footer however does not seem to shrink with a reduced font-size.  There always seems to be quite a gap at the bottom of your text area.

Even with the 'freebie' 1-pagers, there is always a menu-button area; button colour & font can be altered, with optional differences for any 2nd-level menu options.  A button's text echoes its associated page's (editable) name, which could be effectively cleared by make its property a non-breaking space (Numlock + Alt 0160).  If you've just got a 'freebie' 1-pager website, you can consider say just having something like several chevrons for example  »»»  (Alt 0187).

You can control paragraph text, Headlining 1/2/3, & link attributes (normal/visited/active + hover).

Think carefully before inserting a table - you can extend/reduce its size afterwards, but you can't insert / remove intervening columns / rows - you'll have to manually shuffle any already entered content.

Any link you insert to a locally downloaded image / PDF etc., will open in a separate window ...

Any link you insert to another web-page, can optionally open in a new window or replace the existing ...

Pasting in externally copied material tries to be helpful in interpretting formatted or HTML text.

The chooser shows how many visuals are provided - 44 have only 8, two have 9, one has 15, one has 23, rest have 20.

To help choose your template, I hope eventually to list below their attributes (as I understand them) :-
